All of our prices will be increasing from 1st January 2026. Many of our costs have increased and alongside inflation, we are not able to absorb these costs.

These increases are by as little as 4-5%. And, even with the increased pricing, we are still cheaper than many of our competitors and we offer a high quality service (according to independent online customer reviews).

However, there are still ways that you can save when booking with us:

  1. Introducing our Low Cost Learning Scheme
We are aware of how much small charities are struggling at the moment, so we are also introducing a brand new Low Cost Learning Scheme. If your charity has less than 30 members of staff or an income of less than £500,000 per year, you can sign up to our exclusive list to receive details of selected courses at a substantial discount. You can see the full terms and conditions and sign up here – Register your interest for our Low Cost Learning Scheme.
  2. Using vouchers to make your budget go further
We also offer a Voucher scheme, offering up to 15% extra budget when you pay for your vouchers in advance. These are valid for 2 years and can be used for any of our services.
  3. Book next year’s courses and services in advance
Our pricing will change from 1st January 2026. If you book your courses before the prices change, these bookings will be at the existing prices, so this is the perfect time to start and plan your organisation’s learning for the year ahead.

The post Happy recognised in ZeroDX Awards! appeared first on Happy.

]]>
The Benchmark Innovators award is given to a company that fit this criteria: “Through their vision, values, strength, and persistence, some organizations successfully forge new standards for the application of progressive management. They set the standards which others follow. They are the benchmark innovators.”

The ZeroDX Awards was launched in 2020, by the Business Ecosystem Alliance, looking to identify and celebrate the world of organisations throughout the world in eliminating the distance between their employees, their operations and their customers. The ZeroDX awards builds on the success of the Zero Distance Awards, which the Business Ecosystem Alliance launched in 2021. This award celebrates the organisations leading the way in putting the concept to work.

The concept of Zero Distance was introduced by the Haier Group. It emphasises the connection between a business and the end-user or customer. This has become central to the management model of the Internet of Things era. They run these awards yearly, to celebrate businesses that fit the embodiment of the three categories.

“For us, Zero Distance means having no barriers for front-line staff to interact directly with our clients and being able to respond as they wish without needing any approval. We certainly plan to continue to ensure there are no organisational barriers that separate our people from our clients.” – Henry Stewart, Happy Chief Happiness Officer.

There were 10 companies total regonised in the Benchmark Innovator category of the ZeroDX awards. We are very proud to be one of these companies and be seen as those forging the way of the future.

The post Happy recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Education and Training™! appeared first on Happy.

]]>
Happy’s employees anonymously reported that following the Happy Manifesto makes the company a great place to work.

The Best Workplaces in Education and Training™ list is created using the anonymous feedback from employees working in the industry about their workplace experience. At Happy, we have seen so many employees enjoying their time working at our company and being a part of the team.

Great Place To Work® UK administered their research-backed Trust Index© employee survey and analysed the responses of UK-based consulting and professional services employees to determine the Best Workplaces™ list. The surveys asked employees to comment on how their company supports their work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety and financial security. Evaluations also included an assessment of how well the organisation was able to deliver consistency of their employee experience across all departments and seniority levels.

Analysis of the sector employee survey responses found:

  • 76% of employees at the UK’s Best Workplaces for Education and Training say “I am offered training and development to further myself professionally” compared to 59% at a typical company in this sector.

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work® UK said:

“The UK’s Best Workplaces in Education & Training™ create environments where their people feel valued, supported, and able to make a real difference. The data shows us that these organisations strive to provide sufficient flexibility and autonomy, allowing staff to do meaningful work in a culture that enables people to perform at their best. Congratulations Happy on being recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Education & Training™.”

This isn’t the only UK’s Best Workplaces award Happy has been awarded this year, so we are extremely happy to be recognize again. Previously, Happy has been awarded the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development™ 2025 and was regonized as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ 2025.

5 tips for using Canva effectively https://www.happy.co.uk/blogs/5-tips-for-using-canva-effectively/ Mon, 28 Jul 2025 14:43:55 +0000 https://happy.co.uk/?p=22011 Canva is an online tool for graphic design for people who aren't graphic designers. It has taken the internet by storm in the last few years, and has expanded from just social media posts to presentations, video, whiteboards, and even spreadsheets. There are so many features within Canva it can be a little overwhelming. Here are our five top tips that you might not know about that will save you time when creating your next design.

There are so many features within Canva it can be a little overwhelming. Here are our five top tips that you might not know about that will save you time when creating your next design.

1. Easily connect shapes using Quick Flow

Canva’s Quick Flow feature helps you align, group and arrange elements effortlessly. Dragged an image but need perfect alignment? Or maybe you’re stacking text with icons? Quick Flow ensures everything is aligned evenly, without manual fiddling. But did you know that you can also use it to connect shapes and quickly create Flow Charts? Here’s how:

  • Click on a shape, right click, and then select Enable Quick Flow (if the menu says ‘Disable Quick Flow’ then you already have it enabled)
  • You can then click on the arrows that appear around your shape to attach it to other shapes

You can also select multiple elements and use the Group feature to keep everything together.

2. Have different sized documents within one file

One of Canva’s hidden gems is the ability to add multiple pages to a single design. It’s perfect for creating presentations, flyers, or a carousel for Instagram. But did you know that you can also create different sized documents within the same file?

  • Click the Add Page button below your current design
  • Choose a different page type by clicking on it from the list

This allows you to design each page as part of a bigger picture while keeping everything in one place, such as creating a whole social media pack for a marketing campaign.

3. Apply your brand kit to your design in seconds

If you’re creating a design for a business or a project, Canva’s Brand Kit feature is your best friend. Brand Kit allows you to store your fonts, colours and logos, so you don’t have to manually choose them each time. Here’s how:

  • Navigate to Brand Kit from the Canva Menu
  • Upload your brand assets (such as logos), choose your primary and secondary colours, and select your fonts
  • When in a design, click on Brand in the navigation panel on the left, then Shuffle to update the design using your branding instantly

You can also quickly add your logo to the design through this Brand navigation panel.

4. Resize an element while keeping proportions

Have you ever tried resizing an element only to distort it? Canva makes resizing elements easy while ensuring its proportions are maintained. This is perfect for resizing photos, logos or even text. Here’s how:

  • Hold down the ALT key and you will be able to resize from all four corners in proportion
  • Canva will also display all the pixel sizes of elements and spacing in your design, so you can keep these consistent.

Need to resize a whole design? Upgrade to Canva Pro and use the Magic Resize tool to adjust your design for different formats like Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest posts.

5. Use Canva Frames to create eye-catching mock ups

If you want to create a quick mockup, then you can use Canva frames. These are drag-and-drop placeholders for your images, which means you can drag and drop your images into them and your image will stick to the position. Here’s how:

  • Click on Elements on the navigation panel on the left, scroll down to Frames, then click on ‘see all’
  • This section will expand – then scroll down to Devices, and click ‘see all’ again
  • Click on the device you want to use to insert it into your design
  • Drop an image inside the placeholder, and Canva will automatically crop it to fit

You can use either the stock images (under Elements) or images from your uploads folder. You can also double click the image inside the frame to readjust its position.

Using Frames like mobile phones or laptops for mock ups will allow you to showcase your app or website in action.

Canva makes it simple to turn your ideas into stunning designs, no matter your skill level. By using Quick Flow, adding pages, applying your brand kit, resizing with precision and utilising frames, you can create professional-looking designs in no time.

Want to learn more top tips? Happy has three Canva training courses available: Canva, a one-day workshop, and Canva Whiteboard, a two-hour session focusing on the Whiteboard feature, and Canva Infographics, a 90-minute session focusing on creating professional infographics.

A leadership transition at Happy: Welcoming Cathy Busani as CEO https://www.happy.co.uk/blogs/a-leadership-transition-at-happy-welcoming-cathy-busani-as-ceo/ Tue, 01 Jul 2025 10:55:00 +0000 https://happy.co.uk/?p=20371 After an incredible 37.5 years leading Happy, our founder and Chief Happiness Officer Henry Stewart is stepping down. While this marks the end of an era, it’s also the start of an exciting new chapter as Cathy Busani, our Managing Director, steps in as our new CEO.

This transition is more than just a title change. It represents a continuation of the values and culture that make Happy, well, Happy. Cathy has been instrumental in shaping our organisation, bringing wisdom, care and an unrivalled commitment to inclusivity, trust and creating joy in the workplace.

Meet Cathy Busani, Happy’s new CEO

For three decades, Cathy has been at the forefront of building and fostering the unique culture that defines Happy. From prioritising employee well-being to championing self-managing teams, Cathy has always practised what she preaches. This attitude led her from starting as an IT trainer to being voted manager of the training team in just six months – and then to become Managing Director shortly after.

Here’s what Cathy had to say about stepping into the role:

“I feel very privileged to have worked at Happy for 30 years, and I’m incredibly thankful for Henry and the team’s faith and trust in me. With our shift to an Employee Ownership Trust model earlier this year, it feels like an exciting future for the business. My plan is to build on what already works so joyfully here and take it to another level—working with our amazing team to keep what makes Happy, Happy.”

One of Cathy’s first acts as CEO truly reflects her leadership style. She is meeting each member of the team one-to-one to ask what they need, what they hope for and what they expect from her as a leader.

It’s a powerful reminder that exceptional leadership starts with listening. It’s also a testament to Cathy’s deep commitment to empowerment, collaboration and shared decision-making.

Henry Stewart’s legacy

Henry’s innovative leadership has defined Happy since its inception. From starting as a simple idea to make IT learning enjoyable to being celebrated as one of the UK’s top workplaces, Henry has always pushed boundaries.

His philosophy outlined in his book, The Happy Manifesto, has been our guiding principle. It is the foundation of our award-winning culture, as well as everything we do for our clients. It has inspired thousands of leaders create happy workplaces based on trust and empowerment.

But this isn’t a farewell. Henry will still dedicate three days per week to Happy, contributing his enthusiasm, creativity and mentorship as we move forward.

Reflecting on this milestone, Henry says:

“I’m so proud of what we’ve built together over nearly four decades. But I’m even more excited about what comes next, with Cathy at the helm and a company of brilliant, empowered people continuing to do what we do best. Here’s to the next chapter!”

What the Happy team says

Cathy’s appointment has been met with overwhelming support and excitement from the Happy team.

“Cathy understands Happy’s culture and values. Frankly, it’s a no-brainer! She is a natural fit for CEO.” ~ Sal

“I think Cathy is such a brilliant choice for CEO, and it feels like a natural step from her current role as MD. She’s been such a big part of shaping Happy’s culture and really lives the values. I think she brings a great mix of strategic thinking, thoughtful decision-making and genuine care for all of us. I’m very excited for her, and for us!” ~ Simone

“Cathy is an inspiring leader and is key to our culture and successShe is the natural choice!” ~ Claire

The future of Happy

With Cathy as CEO, Happy’s ethos remains unchanged. We will continue creating joy at work, fostering workplaces where people thrive, and driving meaningful change through leadership consultancy and workplace development. Our transition to an Employee Ownership Trust earlier this year is a pivotal step towards ensuring that Happy remains a values-driven organisation.

To our clients, community, and friends of Happy, thank you for your continued support. We couldn’t be more thrilled for this next phase with Cathy leading the way.

Here’s to the future of creating joy at work, underpinned by the same values that have always set Happy apart.

Together, we’ll continue inspiring organisations and unleashing possibilities within teams.

Happy named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development™ 2025 https://www.happy.co.uk/blogs/happy-named-one-of-the-uks-best-workplaces-for-development-2025/ Mon, 02 Jun 2025 14:46:19 +0000 https://happy.co.uk/?p=22039 Happy is proud to announce that we have been named as 40th in the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development™ list.

The post Happy named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development™ 2025 appeared first on Happy.

]]>
New for this year, the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development List recognises companies making development of their people a key part of company culture. These workplaces offer their people the chance to better themselves, to learn new skills, and to progress within the organisation. They understand that development is not one-size fits all, and they actively support every single employee to undertake their own tailored journey of growth. Because of this, their people are fuelled by a sense of purpose, feel valued by their employer, and give their best to the organisation.

Our inclusion on this exclusive list officially acknowledges our commitment to development, innovation and employee growth over the last year.

To compile the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development List, Great Place to Work® reviewed Happy’s culture, benefits, approach to leadership and development, alongside anonymous responses from our employees. They then used these data insights to benchmark our company’s employee value proposition against the culture our employees actual experience. Only the businesses who achieve the highest scores after evaluation receive Best Workplaces™ status.

From our anonymous employee feedback, we can see that overall our team highly commends our dedication to ongoing learning, individual growth, and the culture of knowledge exchange across our business.

Henry Stewart, Founder and Chief Happiness Officer at Happy, said: “Happy has demonstrated a strong commitment to creating environments where employees can learn new skills, progress in their careers, and feel empowered in their roles, and I am proud to see this culture recognised with this award.”

“Training and development aren’t just about helping employees perform their day-to-day tasks – it’s about demonstrating that people are valued and that there’s a clear path for growth. When employees can’t see opportunities ahead, they’re less likely to be fully engaged, which can harm both productivity and retention,” said Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work® UK.

“Development is all about looking forward – it shows a commitment to an employee’s long-term potential. It helps individuals feel appreciated and plays a vital role in shaping a strong company culture. Every year, we celebrate organisations that are building exceptional workplace cultures where people and businesses thrive. Learning and development opportunities are a key part of that, which is why we’re especially excited to be unveiling the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development.”

This award is our third from Great Place To Work this year, as we also featured in the UK’s Best Workplaces™ 2025 and UK’s Best Workplaces for Women™ 2024 lists!

We’re so proud of this achievement and look forward to using the valuable insights Great Place To Work has provided us with to build on our culture and employee satisfaction.

The Sunday Times Best Place to Work UK has been released this year, with Happy featured on the list under the Small company category. This year, the award is in partnership with WorkL, to help showcase the Best Places to Work within the UK.

Happy has been acknowledged as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work and successfully recognised for having consistently high levels of employee experience and wellbeing. This nationwide workplace survey honours and celebrates the UK’s top employers – which number over 500 organisations across industries and sizes – and acknowledges the best workplaces for women, LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, Global Majorities, younger and older people, and wellbeing.

Henry, founder and Chief Happiness Officer at Happy, said:

“When I set up Happy, I wanted it to be an organisation that delighted the customer, was a great place to work and fulfilled its staff. I love the fact that at Happy, 99% have a good relationship with their manager and that nobody wants to leave.”

If you are curious about how this award works; The Sunday Times partnered with the platform WorkL’s employee engagement survey, which was developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders, academics, and other independent parties to most accurately monitor employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace. With six-step frameworks in mind, Happy was measured and scored well in all of the categories; Reward and Recognitions, Instilling Pride, Information Sharing, Empowerment, Wellbeing and Job Satisfaction.

Zoe Thomas, editor of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, said:

“The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 employers have brought clever and inventive ideas to bear on their workforces: whether entrusting every employee with a company credit card, extending the dog-friendly office policy to include pet bereavement leave, or simply training employees sensibly so they feel empowered and enthused about their jobs. These are companies where staff have a spring in their step on Monday mornings and a willingness to go the extra mile.”

Her leadership journey through empowering staff to drive change and celebrate small wins have really been transformative for the West Hertfordshire Foundation.

The post Kelly McGovern: Empowering healthcare staff for lasting change appeared first on Happy.

The West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust now have the 7th shortest waiting time known nationally, the fastest discharge rate nationally and meet all three counter measures. Kelly has even managed to put in place processes that have gotten waiting times for ambulances down to zero. All of which are fantastic achievements!

“All of it is about leadership and helping the organisation and departments that you’re in to feel empowered to make a change and to do something different. I think what has happened a lot over the years, is we’ve all got into a bit of a difficult spot, following on from COVID, and we all got into a bit of a rut. It normailised a lot of the things that are going on, and that’s the whole of the community into the hospitals, and it’s about releasing that.”

Kelly found that people were able to flourish when they were empowered to do what they do best, as they know best. Making sure that you support your staff, especially when they know a helpful change, can make a real difference. A lot of this is mindset, and creating a culture of employees feeling believed and empowered.

“Me and a couple of others, we went in to the department in our uniforms, stopped all other work, and stood side-by-side with them and acknowledged with everybody, so we did a wider piece of communication, that the way we are working isn’t okay and we need to change it, but I am not just going to tell you to change it. I am not going to dictate that. I’m going to come and work with you.”

Kelly thought back to when she was a nurse, to have a better perspective on how she would have felt about the changes she was making. She felt that working side-by-side with the nursing team and doing jobs that may not be normal for her role would help strengthen the belief that they were all going to change and work together.

“None of us get out of bed to do a bad job, ever. We’re in the NHS for a reason, we are in healthcare for a reason, and if we make it everyone’s business, so everyone across the whole organisation, the front door is all of our businesses.”

Through celebrating everything – even when timings went up – everyone could feel more motivated and part of the team. Focusing on how much everyone’s jobs help the greater community became key in getting some of these numbers to be much better.

At the start, a key test on how the organisation was doing was by how many days it took to recover from a bad day.

“It took us maybe three or four days normally to recover, and now it takes us half a day to recover, so that actually just shows how much we’re changing as an organisation.”

Kelly’s tips for a happy workplace:

  • Model the behaviour you’d like to see in your workplace.
  • Break the rules that are presented.
  • Let people have the freedom to make decisions.

Want to hear more from Kelly?

Kelly will be speaking more at the 2025 Happy Workplaces Conference on Thursday 12th June about how she created a culture of trust and empowerment with her people. She will share actionable ideas that you can takeaway and implement in your workplace.

Through the power of happiness, Srikumar has found that success and riches will follow as you will be more driven and committed to achieving more in your own life.

“The vision I have for you is that, when you wake up in the morning, your blood is singing at the thought of being who you are and doing what you do. That as you go through the day, you can literally sink to your knees in gratitude at the tremendous good fortune that has been bestowed on you. That as you go through the day, you become radiantly alive several times. And if your life isn’t like that, I would like to humbly suggest that you are wasting your life. Life is too short to be wasted.”

Dr. Srikumar Rao has deduced that in life, a lot of people feel they need to get something, to have something, to then be happy. It’s called the ‘If-Then’ model; if this happens, then we will be happy. This model itself is flawed, but instead of realising that, many people will instead change the If, to see if they will then find happiness from a different task. This constant changing of the If is never ending, so instead, Dr. Rao feels you should work on your own personal happiness with what you have.

He has written many books on success and happiness, which work as fantastic tools for building up your own success in various aspects of your life. His latest book, Modern Wisdom, Ancient Roots: The Movers and Shakers’ Guide to Unstoppable Success, focuses on challenging your own thinking, so that you are not using flawed models to try to find happiness and are instead working on your own tranquillity and success within yourself.

At the 2025 Happy Workplace Conference, Dr. Srikumar Rao is going to be giving a talk on how to achieve great success while remaining serene as a zen monk, something that can be hard to manage, as often success comes with stresses beyond our real control. He takes a look at the direction and mindset of those who have achieved success and how to keep yourself more focused on being calm and finding the happiness.
